The data center backlash is from too many being built in concentrated clusters, and too close to where people live. DC Frog advocates for data center development that avoids encroaching on residential communities. Data centers also need to be more geographically dispersed for national security reasons.

A Rural Solution
It's an American love-hate relationship; sixty-one percent of Americans oppose a new data center near them, but nearly all rely upon 'the cloud,' which is simply the collection of terrestrial data centers. As advocated by DC Frog and our partners, including the Rural National Defense Initiative that made the video on this page, the solution is to spread out and locate data centers rurally – and connect them to urban areas and townships from afar – benefitting Rural America in the process.
